Our Philanthropy

Ovarian Cancer Awareness
Sigma Alpha Omega® voted to establish ovarian cancer awareness as the national philanthropy on June 2, 2007. Since then, Sigma Alpha Omega® has hosted events both nationally and by individual chapters to bring awareness to our philanthropy. Fighting to bring awareness to ovarian cancer is one of the most important things to our sisterhood. Our honorary sister, Mrs. Angelique Young, battled ovarian cancer. She is a model of strength and faith to our chapter and other women. Our chapter hosts events such as teal talk, paint Campbell teal, crunch-a-thon, Miss Campbell, and many more to bring awareness on our campus. We also participate in service projects for women battling ovarian cancer and fundraisers for organizations such as Teal Diva. Check out more about our philanthropy and events below:

Teal Talk

Each Fall, our chapter hosts a philanthropy event called Teal Talk. Fall of 2022, our honorary sister, Angelique Young, came to Campbell to speak. This event allows for awareness to be spread to student across campus since it is open to everyone to attend.

Crunch-a-thon

During Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, September, our chapter participates in crunch-a-thon. During this event, sisters raise awareness to symptoms of ovarian cancer while doing as many crunches as they can which simulates the pain one with ovarian cancer may feel.

Paint Campbell Teal

Paint Campbell teal is an outreach awareness event our chapter hosts. Sisters table on campus and hand out teal ribbons to students. At the table is a banner where individuals are encouraged to put a teal handprint. The one pink handprint on the banner visually represents the 1/75 women who will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
